Minnesota qualified for the World Series by eliminating the Toronto Blue Jays four games to one. In contrast, Atlanta had to come back from a 3 games to two deficit to win one of the most dramatic NLCS on record. So it was no surprise that the Twins, featuring Kirby Puckett, Dan Gladden, Chuck Knoblauch, Chili Davis, and Mike Pagliarulo at the plate, won the first two games, when pitchers Jack Morris and Kevin Tapani gave up only two runs in each of the games. But by the time the seventh game came around, the Braves had battled back behind the pitching of John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Steve Avery and the bats of Ron Gant, Terry Pendleton, Mark Lemke, and David Justice. The 1991 Series will be remembered, because both teams had finished last in their division in 1990, and because 5 of the seven games were decided by one run. The seventh game presented here was among the one-run thrillers.
